In 2025, Chuck Burton at the College Football Journal read about an effort by A.J. Mayowski and his efforts to revive the Lambert Trophy, awarded to the best College Football team in the East. As someone who was written about FCS College Football for over 20 years, Chuck was curious – what about the other Lambert Awards, in particular the Lambert Cup? What had happened to it?
That simple question started a journey of finding the location of the Lambert Cup, creating a committee and organization to fairly determine future Lambert Cups starting in 2025.
Preserving the history of the Lambert Cup and the award is something not undertaken lightly. Established in 1957, the Lambert Cup is steeped in more than 60 years of tradition, almost as long as the Lambert Trophy. It is a labor of love to assemble an impartial committee to determine a champion for Eastern College Football and preserve the history of the cup through this website. The intent is for this site to be a museum to honor former winners, to have a place to tell their stories, to reprint the stories of champions past, and most importantly to keep the Lambert Cup line of championships unbroken.
